About this project

Murmur is a macOS desktop application designed to turn meetings into searchable, queryable memory. It records both sides of a call as separate audio streams, transcribes them locally on your Mac using Whisper (whisper.cpp with Metal acceleration), and merges them into a Me/Others transcript. When you stop recording, an AI of your choice writes a structured note—summary, decisions, action items, quotes—with each grounded line linked back to the exact moment in the audio. You can ask questions during the meeting or later, across everything you've recorded, and get answers with sources. Key features include: - **Capture and transcription**: Dual-stream recording (mic and system audio), on-device Whisper models (Light to Maximum), live captions, crash-safe audio writing, and a floating recorder bar accessible via ⌘⇧R. - **Notes and answers**: Structured notes, receipts with audio jumps, hybrid search (keyword, semantic, graph), a full Markdown editor, document support (PDFs with OCR, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, web pages, images), and tasks/reminders with optional Apple Reminders push. - **Organizing**: Workspaces, dashboards, imports from Notion/Obsidian/Apple Notes, and a configurable trash. - **AI flexibility**: Choose where AI runs—on-device (Qwen3 or Bielik models), local Ollama, Claude Code, Codex, Anthropic API, or Kong AI Gateway. Cloud AI is opt-in, redacted, and logged. - **Sharing**: Optional end-to-end encrypted sharing via Shared Brain, with AES-256-GCM sealing, per-document permissions, and encrypted share links. Sign-in uses OPAQUE. - **Integrations**: Obsidian export (Markdown with YAML front-matter, wikilinks, block references), a local read-only MCP server with 20 tools, optional live connectors (Slack, Notion, ClickUp, Jira, web search), and calendar context. Privacy is a core focus: recording, transcription, search, and on-device AI work offline. The database is encrypted with SQLCipher, and folders can be locked with AES-256-GCM, released via Touch ID or password. Screen-share aware relocking is available. Cloud calls pass through a redaction firewall that masks emails, card numbers, phone numbers, and optionally names. Murmur is free during early access. The app is not open source; this repository hosts downloads, website, documentation, and release notes. It requires macOS 13.4 or later, supports Apple Silicon and Intel, and is signed and notarized by Apple.
