About this project

OpenStove is an open-source, community-driven recipe site built with Astro, Tailwind CSS, Keystatic CMS, and Vercel. Recipes are stored as plain Markdown files in the repository, making the entire site forkable and self-hostable. The platform is ad-free, requires no user accounts, and stores bookmarks locally in the browser. Key features include automatic ingredient scaling via a servings stepper, US/metric unit conversion, print-ready recipe pages with PDF export, and two contribution methods: a web form that generates GitHub Issues or direct pull requests. Recipe photos are hosted separately on Vercel Blob to keep licensed images out of the Git history. The project includes a validation schema for recipe frontmatter, a Keystatic-based CMS for maintainers, and deployment instructions for Vercel with optional GitHub and Cloudflare Turnstile configuration. All code and recipe text are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
