About this project
Deskhub is an open-source remote desktop application that allows you to view and control your computer from another device. It runs natively across five platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. The app is built on a shared C++20 core that handles the protocol across all platforms.
**Key Features:**
- **Fast streaming**: Supports 60 fps on supported hardware, with GPU-accelerated capture, encoding, decoding, and rendering where available.
- **Easy installation**: Install via package managers (winget, Homebrew, apt) or download releases. No account or background service required.
- **Simple interface**: The same four pages (Host, Client, Devices, Settings) appear on every platform, making controls familiar across devices.
- **Secure**: Sessions are encrypted end to end over QUIC/TLS. Access works like SSH—each machine has a key, and clients are only allowed in if the host owner approves them via connection request, QR code, or pasted public key.
- **Real input**: Relative mouse and scancodes for DirectInput games; the host's own mouse/keyboard always wins.
- **Sound included**: The machine's own audio mix is transmitted via Opus at 64 kbps, with one 20 ms frame per datagram.
- **Multi-monitor support**: Share one or several displays, each as its own session.
- **Command-line tools**: `deskhub-cli` can share a screen, open a remote shell, and run from a script or over SSH.
- **Tested core**: Offline unit tests, sanitizer runs in CI, and seven nightly libFuzzer targets cover the wire format, H.264 parsing, reassembly, terminal bytes, UI text, and session state machines.
**Platforms:**
- **Windows**: Reference implementation, daily use over LAN + Tailscale.
- **macOS**: Both roles working (ScreenCaptureKit + VideoToolbox + CGEvent).
- **Android**: Client with video + input; host is view-only screen share (Android 10+).
- **iOS**: Client with video + input; host is view-only screen share via Broadcast Upload Extension.
- **Linux**: Both roles working (PipeWire + VA-API + uinput + GTK3) on Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch.
**Use Cases:**
- Run heavy workloads (Claude Code, VS Code, builds) from a weak laptop or iPad.
- Use desktop-only apps (Chrome, Office) from another device.
- Play games at 60 fps with relative mouse and pointer lock.
- Share multiple monitors as separate sessions.
**Security:** No passcode, no discovery, no switch that lets strangers in. Use a network you trust or a VPN, and never port-forward UDP 47777. Full threat model is documented in SECURITY.md.
**License:** MIT. Third-party components and notices are listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
**Documentation:** Available in English, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese, covering installation, building from source, specification, architecture, security, privacy, and third-party notices.
