About this project

The Digital Garden is a free study platform for computer science students at Prince Masaad bin Abdulrahman University (formerly Saudi Electronic University). It offers content bilingually (Arabic/English) and works as a Progressive Web App (PWA) without the need for registration or email. Study content: explanations for each unit built from the prescribed book, flashcards with the SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm, quizzes for each unit, midterm, and final (multiple choice with instant correction and essay with a model answer), smart terms defined by touch, SVG vector diagrams, and selected videos for each topic. The platform covers 38 courses and 472 study units. Notes: a bidirectional block editor supporting text, headings, lists, tables, and code, with LaTeX equations and Mermaid diagrams, plus search, replace, and edit history. It supports pen drawing on the page itself, and opening PDF files for highlighting, writing, drawing, and searching text while saving a copy for syncing. It includes a converter that turns what is copied from ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude into organized blocks. Semester tools: a personal dashboard with academic status, a page for each course with units, quizzes, grades, and grade prediction, a weekly and monthly lecture and exam schedule that can be printed, search across 84,000 sections, a GPA calculator on the PMAU 4.0 scale with a predictor that charts what the student needs to reach their goal, and professor and course ratings. Labs: a logic circuits lab (CS231) for building, simplifying, and simulating circuits, and a programming languages lab (CS363) supporting 31 languages with 1,870 examples runnable in the browser or on the server. Sync and data: linking devices via QR code or a copied code that expires after three minutes, a recovery path via file or email with a zero-knowledge password or a Google account, structural merging of edits from different devices, and a manageable device log. Everything works offline and the cloud is a backup. Notifications: local notifications for tasks and quizzes that work while the tab is closed, section notifications when a seat becomes available, and importing the Blackboard calendar via an ICS link. Technology: the interface uses pure HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3 with no framework and no build step, a complete PWA with a service worker using differential caching, three themes, and five font sizes. The server runs on Cloudflare Workers with Postgres in Jeddah. License: free for use and development with attribution and prohibited commercially (PolyForm Noncommercial for software and CC BY-NC 4.0 for educational content).
