kinocut

Kinocut is a free, open-source video editing MCP server, Python library, and `kino` CLI that gives AI agents a guardrailed local video-editing surface. It wraps FFmpeg with typed tools, preflight validation, Video Receipt provenance, and quality/release checkpoints so agent-produced media can be inspected before publish. Key capabilities include trimming, captioning, resizing, and repurposing video into vertical Shorts/Reels packages; 360 dual-cam assembly from stitched equirect MP4s; still/image editing with plan-receipt-gate workflows; layered compositing with blend modes and rotation; a JSON job-spec workflow engine for planning, validating, rendering, and recovering multi-step jobs; governed AI-video review with contract-first ingest, verdict, and bounded derivatives; and a dedicated video rescue pipeline for fixing clips without changing story or timeline. The project provides three surfaces: MCP tools (201 on development tip), CLI commands (173), and a Python client. It runs locally on macOS, Linux, and Windows with FFmpeg on PATH, and is licensed under Apache-2.0. Optional extras include Hyperframes, Whisper transcription, object matte (ONNX), and image editing. The latest published release is 1.15.2, with a compatibility shim for the former mcp-video package.
