About this project

Kilo Code is an open-source agentic engineering platform centered on an AI coding agent that runs in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, and the command line. The project is MIT licensed and positions itself as a single agent that follows developers across their tools. Installation options include a VS Code extension from the Marketplace, a JetBrains plugin, and a CLI distributed via npm, pnpm, bun, curl, Homebrew, and Arch Linux AUR. Prebuilt binaries are published on GitHub Releases for Windows x64, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), and Linux (x64 and ARM), with notes about baseline builds for older CPUs and musl builds for Alpine or minimal Docker images. A cloud agent and automated pull-request code reviews are also offered through the project's web app. Kilo ships with several built-in agents: Code for implementing and editing code from natural language, Plan for architecture and implementation planning before writing code, Ask for answering questions about a codebase without modifying files, and Debug for troubleshooting. Users can also define custom agents. Documented capabilities include multi-file code generation from natural language, inline autocomplete with ghost-text suggestions accepted by tab, self-checking where the agent reviews and corrects its own work, terminal and browser control for running commands and automating the web, and a marketplace for installing agents, skills, MCP servers, and plugins. The platform advertises access to 500+ models with the ability to switch models mid-task, and states that users pay the model provider's rate with no markup and that no API keys are required to start. For CI/CD, the CLI supports an autonomous mode via `kilo run --auto`, which auto-approves permission prompts unless a rule explicitly denies the action; the README warns to use it only in trusted environments. The CLI is described as a fork of OpenCode adapted to the Kilo platform. Documentation, a contributing guide, release instructions, and a code of conduct are linked from the repository.
