About this project

Invidious is an open source (AGPLv3) alternative front-end to YouTube. It does not use the official YouTube APIs and can be self-hosted or accessed via public instances. User features include a lightweight interface, no ads, no tracking, optional no-JavaScript usage, light/dark themes, a customizable homepage, subscriptions independent from Google, notifications for subscribed channels, audio-only mode with background play on mobile, Reddit comments support, and availability in many languages via Weblate. Data import/export capabilities allow importing subscriptions from YouTube, NewPipe, and FreeTube; importing watch history from YouTube and NewPipe; exporting subscriptions to NewPipe and FreeTube; and importing/exporting Invidious user data. Technical features include embedded video support, a developer API, no Contributor License Agreement (CLA), and no use of official YouTube APIs. The project recommends browser extensions like Privacy Redirect to automatically redirect YouTube URLs to Invidious instances. Documentation covers installation, the API, applications, and a list of recommended extensions. The project is maintained on GitHub with community channels on Matrix, IRC, and the Fediverse.
