About this project

Bootstrap Italia is a front-end framework based on Bootstrap 5, designed for building digital sites and services for the Italian Public Administration in compliance with the relevant design guidelines. It inherits Bootstrap 5 features, components, mixins, and grid system, customizing them to implement UI Kit Italia patterns and components as ready-to-use code. The project is part of the country's design system ecosystem and is the main development resource for those building public interfaces. Development documentation is available online, as is the design system documentation. Releases are published on GitHub. To contribute, you can consult the design system contribution model and the repository-specific guidelines. The local environment for compiling sources and generating documentation can be started with Docker via docker-compose up. The project uses Jekyll for documentation, Rollup for JavaScript and CSS builds, Sass for style compilation, Prettier for formatting, and html-proofer for HTML testing. The license is BSD 3-Clause. Third-party components distributed include Bootstrap 5, Popper.js, SplideJS, Accessible Autocomplete, AnimeJS, Just Validate, Mini Masonry, and Progressbar.js. Version 1.x, based on Bootstrap 4, is deprecated.
