mstream

mStream is a self-hosted music streaming server positioned as "the easiest music streaming server available." It ships a web interface with Main, Shared and Admin views, plus official open-source mobile apps for Android and iOS (third-party apps also exist). Setup options include prebuilt binaries for Windows, macOS and Linux, a LinuxServer.io Docker image, installation from source, and an AWS/Terraform path. Since v6.20, releases provide one standalone bundle per platform: a desktop tray app (start-at-login, Quick Connect) or a headless `mstream-server` binary; the linux-arm64 and musl bundles are server-only. Notable capabilities described in the README: - Automatic album art lookup for your collection. - Quick Sync: a free VPN-like service powered by Iroh that lets you reach your server without port forwarding, DNS or SSL. It only works with the mobile apps and the upcoming desktop app, not the web app. - P2P Discovery: optionally downloads music discovery data from other mStream servers to suggest similar songs not in your collection (discovery only; you source the files yourself). - Federation: federated servers get read access to each other's data, so P2P discovery results can be streamed. - Public mode: the server is publicly accessible by default, which simplifies setup on trusted networks; adding a user enables password protection. Additional features listed: torrent client integration, YT-DLP integration for downloading YouTube audio, DLNA support, automatic backup to any drive connected to the server, transcoding, Auto DJ queueing, lyrics support including search by lyrics, jukebox mode for remote browser control, and local server audio playback (not available under Docker).
