Investbrain is a Laravel PHP web application for self-hosted personal investment tracking. It provides a browser interface for managing portfolios, holdings, transactions, dividends, stock splits, realized gains, cost basis, currency exchange data, and daily performance snapshots. The recommended installation path is Docker Compose using the official Investbrain image. After downloading the compose file, configuring environment variables, and running Docker Compose, the application is accessible through the configured browser port. Environment settings cover the app URL and port, timezone, market-data refresh interval, daily change capture time, registration availability, API keys, and AI chat options. Market data is accessed through an extensible provider interface. Built-in providers include Yahoo Finance, Twelve Data, Finnhub, Alpaca, and Alpha Vantage. A comma-separated provider list lets users define priority order; if one provider fails, Investbrain attempts the next configured provider. Developers can add custom providers by implementing the market data interface and registering the implementation in configuration. The optional AI chat feature is disabled by default. When configured, it can answer questions grounded in the user's holdings and portfolios. Supported chat providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure, Groq, xAI, DeepSeek, Mistral, and Ollama or other OpenAI-compatible APIs. Users supply their own API keys or local endpoint, and the README notes that LLM output has limitations and should not replace professional investment advice. Investbrain supports portfolio and transaction import and export. Imports are upserted: new records are created, while records with matching IDs are updated. Exports provide a backup and data portability mechanism. Bundled command-line utilities can refresh market, dividend, split, and currency data; capture or synchronize daily performance snapshots; synchronize holdings with related transactions; and recalculate cost basis for sales. The documentation warns that some commands can make irreversible changes or be resource intensive. The interface also includes internationalization, accessibility support, and dark mode.
