About this project
Screenbox is a modern video player for Windows 10 version 1903 and up, Windows 11, and Xbox consoles. It is built on LibVLCSharp and the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), emphasizing performance and ease of use across a wide range of device types.
Key features include a Fluent design user interface, gesture support for seeking and volume control, window resize hotkeys using the number row, a YouTube-inspired hotkey layout, picture-in-picture mode, saving video frames as images, Chromecast support, and the ability to browse and play media over the network.
The recommended installation method is through the Microsoft Store, which provides automatic updates. The app can also be installed via winget with the command `winget install screenbox -s winget`.
For developers, the project provides a contributing guide and project structure documentation. Building requires Visual Studio 2026 with the UWP development workload. The solution file is `Screenbox.slnx`, and the platform should be set to x64 for debugging.
Screenbox supports community translation through Crowdin, with automatic syncing to GitHub and publication in minor updates. Local translation is also possible by copying and translating `.resw` and `.md` files from the `Screenbox\Strings\en-US` directory into language-specific folders using IETF language tags.
