About this project
BrewUI is Homebrew's official graphical macOS application for package management. It provides a native SwiftUI interface aimed at users who prefer a GUI to Terminal, while maintaining transparency about the Homebrew commands and operations being performed.
The app supports discovering, installing, updating, and managing Homebrew packages. Its package data comes from the brew command-line tool and the Homebrew JSON API. BrewUI can be installed with `brew install --cask homebrew-app`.
Configuration is supplied through a `brew.env` file; shell aliases and exported shell variables do not configure the application, and it must be relaunched after configuration changes. The project is built with Swift, SwiftUI, and Swift Package Manager, with strict concurrency enabled.
For contributors, the bootstrap script installs Mint, sets up pinned SwiftFormat and SwiftLint versions, enables Git hooks, and resolves package dependencies. Commit hooks run formatting, linting, and BrewUILint checks. Community localization is managed through Xcode `Localizable.xcstrings` catalogs, with English fallback and helper scripts for verification, status, and synchronization.
The project describes itself as stable and under active development, and it is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
