About this project

Aesthetician is a media processing tool designed to simulate the signal paths of historical recording and broadcast formats. Unlike simple filters, it uses physically-motivated simulations to recreate the visual and auditory artifacts of various eras. Key capabilities include: - Extensive Preset Library: Over 1,000 presets across 22 families, including VHS, 16mm film, Technicolor, early digital codecs (MPEG, FLV), and broadcast signals. - Visual Simulations: Models NTSC/PAL composite encoding, VHS head-switch bending, film grain, emulsion scratches, and digital datamoshing. - Audio Simulations: Recreates tape saturation, wow and flutter, vinyl crackle, and period-specific speaker recipes. - Flexible Interface: Offers a GUI with live previews, session tabs, and editable on-screen text (e.g., camcorder date stamps), as well as a comprehensive CLI for batch processing and scripting. - Technical Controls: Provides 115 effects and 699 parameters, including master dials for Intensity (damage/warping) and Texture (grain/noise). - Multi-format Support: Handles both video and audio files (WAV, MP3, FLAC), with the ability to process audio-only or video-only paths.
