About this project
kftray and kftui are Kubernetes port forwarding tools designed to overcome the limitations of `kubectl port-forward`. They share a Rust backend and configuration format, and both provide automatic reconnection when pods restart or connections drop, using the Kubernetes watch API. They support multiple simultaneous forwards, TCP and UDP via a cluster proxy relay, HTTP traffic logging, and pod health tracking. The desktop app (kftray) runs in the system tray with a GUI, while kftui is a terminal UI. Both can import configurations from local JSON files, GitHub repositories, or directly from cluster service annotations. Workload types include service, pod, proxy, and expose (reverse tunneling to share local services with the cluster or internet, with optional TLS termination via cert-manager). Additional features include hosts file management, auto SSL, port-forward timeouts, request replay (kftui), and GitHub sync. Linux packages are available for Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE via the openSUSE Build Service. The project emphasizes security with SBOM generation, vulnerability scanning, signed artifacts, and SLSA Level 2 compliance.
