About this project

Mnemo Cortex is an open-source cognitive coprocessor designed to give AI agents persistent, local, cross-agent memory. It captures what happened, recalls what matters, and shares context across tools, running entirely on your own machine with no cloud dependency. Key features include: - **Active Memory**: Auto-capture, smart classification, overnight consolidation, and trajectory learning without requiring explicit commands. - **Deep Recall**: Persistent memory across sessions with semantic search. - **Dreaming**: Cross-agent overnight synthesis, where each agent wakes up knowing what others did. - **The Librarian**: Document discovery over the whole workspace using a SQLite FTS5 index, with nightly rebuilds. - **Disco-Bus**: Agent-to-agent messaging with delivery confirmation, A2A-compatible and standalone. - **Cortex Stick**: USB sneakernet for AI memory, with optional AES-256 encryption and no cloud or VPN. - **Memory Ledger**: Tamper-evident chain over memory saves, with verification. - **Structured Facts**: Key-value store with confidence tracking for exact lookups. It supports multiple clients including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, OpenAI Codex CLI, and any local MCP client (LM Studio, AnythingLLM, OpenClaw, Agent Zero, Hermes, Open WebUI, llama.cpp, LobeChat, Jan). ChatGPT integration is via a hardened gate rather than MCP. Installation is straightforward, with a non-interactive installer (`robot.install` + `./robot-install.sh`) and detailed instructions in INSTALL.md. The project includes a session guide (SESSION-GUIDE.md) and a Lane Protocol for effective use. Built by a single maker, it's production-proven with ~10,000 memories, ~7,000 verified facts, and 84 shipped versions. It's free and funded by donations.
