About this project
Depth Convergence is a community-developed BepInEx plugin for Subnautica 2 that transforms the single-player survival experience into a peer-to-peer cooperative multiplayer session for up to four players. It synchronizes world state, resources, base building, vehicles, creature AI, day/night cycles, and weather events across all connected clients using a custom UDP protocol with TCP fallback and AES-256-GCM encryption.
The mod includes role-based permissions (Navigator, Architect, Biologist, Engineer), a token-based invitation system, host migration when the current host disconnects, proximity voice chat, and a dynamic HUD showing teammate vitals and distance. Console commands such as /dc listplayers, /dc transferhost, /dc settime, and /dc ban provide session administration. An optional opt-in AI narration module can generate flavor text from anonymized game events using OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic Claude APIs.
Installation requires a legitimate copy of Subnautica 2 and BepInEx 5.4.23 or newer. The plugin is written in C# using Harmony transpilers and is distributed under the MIT License. The README documents compatibility across Windows, Linux via Proton/Wine, macOS via CrossOver, and Steam Deck, with some platform-specific limitations such as missing VoIP on Fedora and Steam Deck. The project is independent and not affiliated with Unknown Worlds Entertainment or KRAFTON.
