About this project
This repository provides the official Go client libraries for Google Cloud Platform services. Each service is exposed as its own importable package under the cloud.google.com/go module, so developers can pull in only the APIs they need.
Installation is done through the Go module system, for example `go get cloud.google.com/go/firestore@latest`, replacing firestore with the desired package. The README notes that some packages are still under development and may occasionally introduce backwards-incompatible changes, so pinning versions is advisable for production use. A full list of released APIs is maintained in the project's reference documentation.
Authentication relies on Application Default Credentials (ADC). Inside Google Cloud environments such as Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, or App Engine, no extra setup is required; clients discover credentials automatically. For local development, the `gcloud auth application-default login` command from the Google Cloud CLI can populate user credentials. Alternatively, a service account key file can be referenced via the GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS environment variable or passed programmatically with `option.WithCredentialsFile`. For finer control, the credentials package can build an auth.Credentials value that is then supplied through `option.WithAuthCredentials`.
The libraries follow the Go project's release policy and support the two most recent major Go releases. Contributions are accepted under the project's contributing guide and code of conduct. The README also links to getting-started material for Go on Google Cloud, including App Engine, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Run quickstarts.
