cotabby

Cotabby is a free, open-source macOS application (beta) that brings AI-powered autocomplete to virtually any text field on your Mac. As you type, it displays a gray inline suggestion; press Tab to accept the next word, backtick to accept the whole suggestion, or continue typing to dismiss. It supports emoji autocomplete (e.g., `:rocket:`), inline macros (e.g., `/` for math, unit/currency conversion, dates, random values), and one-key autocorrect for typos. Privacy is a core focus: the default Apple Intelligence and Open Source engines run entirely on-device, with no account, telemetry, or analytics. An optional OpenAI-compatible engine can connect to a user-configured endpoint (e.g., local Ollama, LAN host, or public HTTPS), with credentials stored in Keychain. Cotabby blocks generation in password and secure fields. Engines: Choose among Apple Intelligence (macOS 26+ on supported Macs), Open Source (downloadable GGUF models like tabby-2-nano/mini/base/pro, running via llama.cpp), or OpenAI-compatible endpoints. Custom GGUF models can be added by dropping files into the models folder. Installation: Requires macOS 14+. Install via Homebrew (`brew tap FuJacob/cotabby && brew install --cask cotabby`) or download the DMG from cotabby.app. Permissions needed: Accessibility, Input Monitoring, and optionally Screen Recording (for visual context).
