Font Awesome is an icon library and toolkit used by designers, developers, and content creators. The repository hosts Version 7, which is the current active release. Version 6 has been designated as Long Term Support (LTS) and will receive critical bug fixes only. Versions 3, 4, and 5 are end-of-life. The toolkit provides icons packaged as SVG, JavaScript, web font, and desktop font files. It includes CSS and other non-font code resources. Documentation covers getting started, upgrading from previous versions, and changelogs. Font Awesome Free is open source and GPL friendly, usable for commercial and open source projects. It uses a split license model: icons (SVG and JS files) are under CC BY 4.0, fonts are under SIL OFL 1.1, and code is under MIT. Attribution is required, but downloaded files contain embedded comments with sufficient attribution. The project follows Semantic Versioning with specific deviations for the major version 7 umbrella release. Minor releases may include backward-incompatible changes with upgrading instructions, and icons will not be removed in minor or patch releases.
