About this project

S2D is a 2D graphics library written in and for Scala Native, built on top of SDL2 and OpenGL. It aims to provide an easy-to-use API for creating 2D games and graphics applications. The README shows a basic example: creating a window, setting up a Camera2D with offset, target, rotation and zoom, then running a main loop that begins a frame, clears the screen with a color, begins a camera, draws a rectangle and a circle, ends the camera and ends the frame, finally closing the window. Drawing primitives shown include Rectangle and circle via the Basics module, with Color values. There is no official documentation at present; the author points to basic examples in the s2d_examples folder as a substitute. Installation uses a custom CLI tool that creates a new template project with either SBT or Scala CLI. The guide requires Coursier: run `cs install s2d --contrib` to install the s2d-cli application, then run commands via `s2d --<command>`, with `--help` listing available commands. The CLI tool has its own repository (S2D_CLI) with changelog and releases, and the install command fetches the latest version. A note states version 1.0.1 used the wrong version scheme and that S2D will use early-semver starting from 0.1.2-SNAPSHOT. Community links mentioned include a subreddit, a Discord that is not yet available, and a Substack. Contributions are welcomed: fork the project, create a feature branch, commit changes, push the branch and open a pull request; the CONTRIBUTING file describes requirements for building and running the project. The project is licensed under the zlib license.
