About this project

Emacs Application Framework is an extensible framework for embedding graphical applications inside Emacs. It connects Emacs Lisp with Python, Qt6, and JavaScript-based components, providing richer graphics while retaining Emacs configuration and keybinding workflows. The project includes optional applications for web browsing, PDF viewing, music and video playback, image viewing, RSS reading, terminal access, mind maps, camera use, Markdown and Org-mode preview, Git operations, file management, and simple video editing. Its launch commands also cover HTML mail rendering, map route planning, file transfer helpers, Airshare, Markmap, Office document viewing, Jupyter, and a system monitor. Additional applications are available in the emacs-eaf organization, and community packages use EAF for visualization, music, games, and terminals. EAF supports Linux X11, Windows, macOS, and FreeBSD, with additional notes for Nix, macOS, and Gentoo in the wiki. Installation clones the repository, runs install-eaf.py or eaf-install-and-update to choose applications and dependencies, adds the directory to Emacs load-path, requires eaf, and requires each installed application. The documentation includes use-package configuration, per-application keybinding customization, update procedures, a demo command, FAQ, wiki, issue-reporting guidance, and crash-debugging instructions.
