About this project
Clustta is an open-source version control and asset management platform designed specifically for creative work such as animation, design, and asset creation. It addresses the limitations of developer-focused tools like Git and fragile consumer file sync services by offering intentional version control with an artist-friendly interface. The desktop client is cross-platform (Windows, macOS, Linux), built with Go and Vue 3 via Wails, and works alongside a self-hostable Studio Server.
Key features include checkpoint-based versioning using content-addressed chunking (FastCDC and Zstandard compression), nestable collections, custom asset types, tagging, assignments and status tracking, dependency resolution, visual workflow templates, asset templates, selective sync with conflict resolution, role-based access control, shareable download links, trash and recovery, ignore patterns, and full-text search. Integrations include Kitsu for production tracking and a local HTTP bridge server for DCC tools like Blender, Maya, and Unreal. A built-in AI assistant can answer questions about project structure using user-provided API keys from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Groq, or local Ollama.
Projects are stored as self-contained `.clst` SQLite databases containing metadata and file chunks, supporting local-first, distributed, and air-gapped workflows. The project is developed by Eaxum, an animation studio in Nigeria, and is licensed under AGPL v3.
