About this project

OpenCore Legacy Patcher is a Python-based project built around Acidanthera's OpenCorePkg and Lilu, designed to run and unlock features in macOS on both supported and unsupported Macs. Its main goal is to breathe new life into Macs no longer supported by Apple, allowing installation and usage of macOS Big Sur and newer on machines as old as 2007. Key features include support for macOS Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia; native Over the Air (OTA) system updates; support for Penryn and newer Macs; full WPA Wi-Fi and Personal Hotspot support on BCM943224 and newer wireless chipsets; System Integrity Protection, FileVault 2, .im4m Secure Boot, and Vaulting; Recovery OS, Safe Mode, and Single-user Mode booting on non-native OSes; unlocking features like Sidecar and AirPlay to Mac even on native Macs; enhanced SATA and NVMe power management on non-Apple storage devices; zero firmware patching required; and graphics acceleration for both Metal and non-Metal GPUs. The project supports clean installs and upgrades only. macOS Big Sur installs already patched with other patchers such as Patched Sur or bigmac cannot be used due to broken file integrity with APFS snapshots and SIP. Users can reinstall macOS with this patcher and retain their original data. Official support covers patching to run macOS Big Sur through Sonoma installs; for older OSes, OpenCore may function but support is not provided from Dortania. For macOS Mojave and Catalina support, dosdude1's patchers are recommended. The project is offered on an AS-IS basis without guaranteed support, but a community Discord server is available for assistance. Documentation includes an in-depth guide and instructions for building and running from source.
