About this project
BlenderGIS is a Blender addon (minimum version 2.83) that connects Blender's 3D modeling capabilities with geographic information systems. It supports importing common GIS data formats including Shapefile vectors, raster images, GeoTIFF DEMs, and OpenStreetMap XML. Users can grab geodata directly from the web, displaying dynamic web maps inside Blender's 3D view, requesting OpenStreetMap data (buildings, roads), and retrieving true elevation data from the NASA SRTM mission. The addon manages georeferencing information for scenes, computes terrain meshes via Delaunay triangulation, drops objects onto terrain meshes, performs terrain analysis using shader nodes, sets up cameras from geotagged photos, and configures cameras to render new georeferenced rasters. Since 2022, the OpenTopography web service requires a free API key from opentopography.org.
