About this project
Questarr is a self-hosted video game management application modeled on the *Arr family (Sonarr, Radarr, Prowlarr) and GamezServer. It is aimed at people who want a single place to track a game backlog, discover new releases, and automate downloading and importing of game files.
Core capabilities described in the README:
- Backlog management: track games with statuses such as Wanted, Owned, Playing, Completed and Shelved, plus ratings and notes. A dedicated Playing page adds journal notes, a milestones checklist, screenshots and Steam achievements per game, with Crack status and Time to Beat from IGDB on the detail page, and a DLC/expansions tab.
- Discovery: browse popular, new and upcoming titles via IGDB, RSS feeds and xREL.to, or sync a Steam wishlist. A per-platform Root folder / Scan Disk feature finds games already on disk and reconciles their files.
- Search and filtering: search by genre, platform and keyword, with automatic searching until a release is found, release blacklisting, and preferred release groups/platforms. A Platforms setting scopes the app, with optional filters for shelved/owned games and age-restricted or erotic content.
- Download management: integrates with indexers and downloaders, supports optional auto-download and automatic post-processing import, password-protected archives, optional pre-import VirusTotal/ClamAV scanning, and an optional AI-assisted matching workflow (BYOK).
- Notifications: in-app alerts plus external notifications to 100+ providers through Apprise.
- Metadata: enriched details from IGDB, Steam, PCGamingWiki and NexusMods, including trending mods where available.
- Statistics: collection statistics with Discord sharing support (marked as in progress).
- Security: general hardening, SSL support, and OpenSSF certification.
Supported indexers include Torznab (torrent), Newznab (Usenet) and G4U.to, with Prowlarr synchronization to add indexers at once. Downloaders listed are qBittorrent, Transmission, rTorrent, Deluge and Synology Download Station for torrents, and Sabnzbd and Nzbget for Usenet.
Installation is primarily via Docker, with published images for linux/amd64 and linux/arm64. The README also documents Docker Compose, a Windows installer, a Proxmox LXC script, UNRAID Community Applications, CasaOS, Umbrel, Cosmos Cloud, a bundled Helm chart for Kubernetes, and a Home Assistant add-on. SQLite is the default self-contained database; PostgreSQL is an optional backend with a migration script from SQLite. A reverse proxy/subdirectory deployment is supported via QUESTARR_BASE_PATH.
Tech stack: React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Node.js and SQLite. External APIs include IGDB, Torznab/Newznab, PCGamingWiki, NexusMods and xREL.to. The README notes AI-assisted development and review tooling.
A roadmap lists a completed post-processing pipeline, planned smart backlog version tracking, direct download/debrid support, external library sync, further integrations (RomM, Gameyfin, generic webhook), indexer page links and PostgreSQL support, with ongoing work on mobile responsiveness, search UX, performance and security.
