About this project
SmartCraft for OsmAnd is an Android application that connects to a Mercury SmartCraft BLE gateway (such as VesselView Mobile) and decodes engine data over Bluetooth Low Energy. The decoded metrics are then exposed as map widgets in the OsmAnd navigation app, allowing boaters to see engine RPM, coolant temperature, battery voltage, fuel flow, fuel level, oil pressure, engine hours, gear position, and more directly on the map screen.
The app runs a foreground service (SmartCraftService) that handles the BLE connection and protocol parsing, and communicates with OsmAnd via AIDL. It supports both OsmAnd free and OsmAnd+ versions, with an auto-detection mode.
Widgets include: RPM, coolant temperature, battery voltage, fuel flow, fuel level, oil pressure, engine hours, fuel used, gear, block pressure, oil temperature, seawater temperature, and a calculated fuel efficiency metric (fuel flow divided by GPS speed). Units are configurable for temperature, pressure, fuel flow, and fuel efficiency.
The project is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and includes documentation of the reverse-engineered BLE protocol in PROTOCOL.md. It is built with Gradle and includes CI, unit tests, and release automation via GitHub Actions and Fastlane metadata for F-Droid.
