About this project
This dataset provides Europe Brent and WTI (West Texas Intermediate) Spot Prices sourced from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) open data API.
Data coverage:
- Europe Brent Spot Price FOB (Dollars per Barrel): from 20 May 1987 to present
- Cushing, OK WTI Spot Price FOB (Dollars per Barrel): from 02 January 1986 to present
Granularity and date conventions:
- Daily: the exact observation date
- Weekly: the Friday ending the week
- Monthly: the 15th of the month (e.g. 1987-05-15 represents the May 1987 average)
- Annual: June 30 of the year (e.g. 1987-06-30 represents the 1987 annual average)
Definitions: Brent is a blended crude stream from the North Sea region serving as a marker for pricing other crude streams. WTI (Cushing) is a crude stream from Texas and southern Oklahoma traded at Cushing, Oklahoma, also serving as a pricing marker.
The data can be updated locally using Python 3.6+ and the dataflows library by running oil_prices_flow.py.
License: U.S. government publications are in the public domain. Source attribution to the U.S. Energy Information Administration is requested. Additional work to build this data package is under the Public Domain Dedication and License v1.0 (PDDL).
