About this project
daily.dev is a free and open-source platform that provides developers with a personalized news feed. It aggregates articles, tutorials, release notes, and news from over 2,000 sources across the web. The feed is personalized based on user-followed tags (such as #webdev, #ai, #devops) and reading activity.
The platform is available as a new tab browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, as a web application, and as native mobile apps for iOS and Android.
Key features include:
- A personalized feed of developer content tuned to a user's stack and reading history.
- Squads, which are developer communities for sharing and discussing content.
- Discussions, allowing users to comment on posts.
- Bookmarks and a reading list for saving posts.
- A search function to find posts, tags, sources, and discussions across the network.
The browser extension operates by replacing only the new tab page. According to the project documentation, it does not track browsing on other websites, read or modify content on other pages, access browsing history, or inject scripts into websites. The project states that user data is never sold.
daily.dev is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. This repository serves as the central hub for documentation and community interactions, while the frontend applications for the extension and web app are maintained in a separate monorepo. The project also includes official product documentation and a community-curated list of developer resources. The business model is ad-supported, with an optional paid subscription called daily.dev Plus that adds additional features.
