About this project

eur-lex-mcp-server is a Model Context Protocol server that puts EU legal sources in front of any MCP client. It queries the EU Publications Office's CELLAR semantic repository over SPARQL and the EUR-Lex content API, and can run as a stdio process, a local Streamable HTTP server, or against a public hosted endpoint. No API key is required, since CELLAR and the EUR-Lex REST endpoints are publicly accessible. Tools (7): - eurlex_search_documents — search legislation, treaties and preparatory acts by keyword, document type, date range, EuroVoc concept, author institution or in-force status; paged up to 100 per page, with flags for consolidated texts and corrigenda. - eurlex_get_document — fetch metadata and full text (HTML, Markdown or Formex4 XML) by CELEX, ELI or work URI, in any of the 24 EUR-Lex languages with English fallback; supports paged/full/metadata-only modes, outlines, section selection, and resolution to the current consolidated version. - eurlex_lookup_celex — resolve a CELEX number, ELI URI or ECLI to its canonical CELLAR work. - eurlex_get_cases — search CJEU and General Court case law by case number, court, case type, keyword and date range. - eurlex_get_relations — traverse one hop of the CELLAR relationship graph (citations, amendments, repeals, legal basis, consolidations, national transposition). - eurlex_browse_subjects — search the EuroVoc thesaurus to resolve terms to concept URIs. - eurlex_query_sparql — run a read-only SPARQL SELECT against CELLAR, capped at 100 rows. Resources: eurlex://document/{celexNumber} (metadata snapshot) and eurlex://document/{celexNumber}/relations (one-hop relationship summary). Prompt: eurlex_comparative_analysis, which frames a comparative EU/US legal analysis for a policy domain. Configuration covers SPARQL endpoint and content base URL overrides, query timeout, result ceiling, transport (stdio/http), HTTP port, auth mode (none/jwt/oauth), session mode, log level and optional OpenTelemetry. Docker images are published on ghcr.io, and the project is built on @cyanheads/mcp-ts-core. Licensed Apache-2.0.
