About this project

## Overview MCP for Unity is an open-source bridge that connects AI assistants (Claude, Codex, VS Code, local LLMs, and any MCP-compatible client) to the Unity Editor using the Model Context Protocol. It lets developers control Unity through natural language—creating scenes and GameObjects, editing C# scripts, managing assets, running tests, profiling, and building projects. The project is free under the MIT license and maintained by Aura, with a companion premium tool called Aura for Unity. ## Key Features - **47 MCP tool entrypoints** covering scene creation, asset management, script editing, testing, profiling, and build automation. - **Any MCP client support** including Claude Desktop/Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Cline, and Gemini CLI. - **Unity version compatibility** from 2021.3 LTS through 6.x. - **Multi-instance routing** for working with multiple Unity editors simultaneously. - **Tool groups** (vfx, animation, ui, testing, etc.) for organized workflows. - **Roslyn-based script validation** to catch errors before execution. - **Remote server support** with authentication for hosted deployments. ## Quickstart 1. Install via Unity Package Manager using the git URL: `https://github.com/CoplayDev/unity-mcp.git?path=/MCPForUnity#main` (or pin a release tag like `#v10.0.0`). 2. Configure clients via `Window → MCP for Unity → Configure All Detected Clients`. 3. Start prompting, e.g., "Create a cube at the origin and add a Rigidbody." ## Requirements - Unity 2021.3 LTS or later (up to 6.x) - Python 3.10+ (managed via `uv`) - Any MCP-compatible AI client ## Advanced Usage - **Multi-Instance Routing**: Route commands to specific Unity instances. - **Tool Groups**: Enable/disable tool categories for focused workflows. - **v10 Migration**: Upgrade notes for asset generation changes. - **Roslyn Validation**: Server-side C# script validation. - **Remote Server Auth**: Secure remote hosting with authentication. ## Community & Support - Discord for maintainer and contributor chat - GitHub Issues for bugs and feature requests - GitHub Discussions for design ideas - SECURITY.md for private vulnerability reporting ## Citation If used in research, cite: Wu, Shutong and Barnett, Justin P.
