About this project

CodeEdit is a code editor for macOS, developed entirely by and for the community, with a strong commitment to being open source and free forever. It aims to provide a native macOS experience similar to Xcode but for projects not targeting Apple platforms, avoiding the reliance on cross-platform frameworks like Electron. The editor includes features such as syntax highlighting, code completion, project find and replace, snippets, a terminal, task running, debugging, Git integration, code review, and extensions. The project is currently in development and not yet recommended for production use, but pre-release versions are available for testing. The community actively collaborates via Discord and GitHub Discussions, with weekly meetups. The project spans multiple repositories and welcomes contributions, with a detailed contribution guide and project board for issue tracking. The mission emphasizes a lightweight experience akin to TextEdit that can scale to a feature-rich editor comparable to Xcode, adhering closely to Apple's human interface guidelines.
