About this project
Chatbox is an open-source (GPLv3) desktop AI client designed as a powerful copilot for interacting with large language models. It provides a unified interface for connecting to multiple AI providers including OpenAI (ChatGPT), Azure OpenAI, Claude, Google Gemini Pro, Ollama (for local models like Llama 2, Mistral, Mixtral, CodeLlama, Vicuna, Yi, and Solar), and ChatGLM-6B.
Key features include local-first data storage ensuring privacy, streaming replies for rapid responses, Markdown and LaTeX rendering with code syntax highlighting, a prompt library for saving and reusing prompts, message quoting for contextual discussions, and image generation via DALL-E 3. The application supports an ergonomic UI with dark theme, keyboard shortcuts, and multilingual support across English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Russian, and Spanish.
Chatbox is available on Windows (10+, x64), macOS (11 Big Sur+, Intel and Apple Silicon), and Linux (Ubuntu 20.04+, AppImage). Mobile versions exist for iOS and Android. The project is built with Electron and React, using pnpm for dependency management and Vite for development. It also offers team collaboration features for sharing OpenAI API resources among team members.
The repository is actively maintained with regular syncs between the community edition and the pro repository. Contributions are welcome through GitHub Issues, pull requests, translations, and documentation improvements.
