About this project
CasparCG Server is professional broadcast software for playing out and recording graphics, audio, and video across multiple outputs. The project states that it has been used in continuous broadcast production since 2006 and supports Windows and Linux.
Hardware requirements include an OpenGL 4.5-capable GPU; Nvidia GPUs are recommended, while Intel and AMD CPUs have been tested. Windows 11 is the recommended Windows environment, with Windows 10 supported on a best-effort basis. Ubuntu 24.04 is recommended on Linux; other distributions may require building from source.
Users can download ready-to-use releases, testing builds, or compile the server manually. Configuration is performed through the self-documented caspar.config file. On Windows, the server can be launched through the provided batch file or executables; on Linux, it can be started with run.sh or a Docker script. A separate client application, such as CasparCG Client, connects to and controls the server. Optional Windows-only Flash template support requires a specific Adobe Flash Player version.
Documentation is available on the CasparCG wiki, with community discussion on the CasparCG forum. Source build instructions are provided in BUILDING.md. The server is distributed under GPLv3 or later and uses third-party components including FFmpeg, Threading Building Blocks, SFML, GLEW, and Boost.
