About this project

OpenMontage is an agentic video production system designed to be operated via AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot). It provides a structured framework for creating videos through 12 distinct production pipelines, including Animated Explainers, Cinematic trailers, Documentary Montages, and Podcast Repurposing. The system follows a professional production workflow: research, proposal, scripting, scene planning, asset generation, editing, and final composition. It supports both AI-generated visuals (via various API providers) and a "real-footage" path that retrieves and edits clips from open archives like Archive.org, NASA, and Wikimedia Commons. Key technical features include: - Backlot: A living storyboard and local dashboard for tracking production progress and approving assets. - Composition Engines: Integration with Remotion (React-based) and HyperFrames (HTML/GSAP) for rendering. - Tool Registry: A comprehensive set of 100+ tools and 700+ agent skill files to guide the AI through production stages. - Multi-Provider Support: Integration with various image, video, and TTS providers (e.g., Fal.ai, Atlas Cloud, ElevenLabs, Google), while offering free offline alternatives like Piper TTS. - Reference-Based Production: The ability to analyze existing YouTube, TikTok, or Reel videos to extract pacing and style for new content.
