About this project
Easy Visitor Statistics is a Backdrop CMS module that provides simple, zero‑setup web analytics for sites running Backdrop. After installing the module, it automatically starts collecting data about anonymous human visitors and presents the information in attractive, animated charts on the dashboard (admin/reports/easy-visitor-stats).\n\nKey Features\n- No configuration required; just enable the module and wait for data to appear.\n- Shows visitor statistics for nodes, Views, taxonomy term pages and layout pages.\n- Uses Chart.js for interactive charts, with optional animation.\n- Fully GDPR‑compliant: no cookies, no tracking scripts, no personal data collection, and no third‑party services.\n- Only anonymous visits are recorded; logged‑in users are excluded.\n- Works with page caching and asset aggregation enabled.\n\nInstallation & Configuration\n1. Install the module following the standard Backdrop CMS module installation process.\n2. Visit the dashboard at admin/reports/easy-visitor-stats to view charts.\n3. Optional settings (admin/reports/easy-visitor-stats/settings) allow you to adjust data retention period and enable/disable chart animations.\n4. Permissions can be granted to other roles via admin/config/people/permissions to view the dashboard or raw data.\n\nPrivacy & Compliance\n- No cookies are set and no fingerprinting is performed.\n- Data collection relies on a small JavaScript snippet; visitors with script blockers will not be counted.\n- Only human visitors are counted; known bots are filtered out, though sophisticated bots may still be recorded.\n\nLimitations\n- The interactive charts are rendered as images, which limits accessibility (WCAG compliance is limited).\n- JavaScript‑based collection means visits from browsers with script blockers are missed.\n- Some advanced bots that mimic human behavior may still be counted.\n\nAlternative Solutions\n- Backdrop core Statistics and Visitors modules (node‑only, limited bot filtering).\n- Third‑party integrations such as Matomo or Google Analytics (more features but require setup, cookies, and consent).\n- Log‑based tools like Webalizer or AWstats (require server‑side log access and separate UI).\n\nMaintainers\n- Current maintainer: Indigoxela (GitHub: https://github.com/indigoxela).\n\nLicense\n- This module is released under GPLv3. See LICENSE.txt for full terms.\n\nFor bug reports or feature requests, use the issue queue at https://github.com/backdrop-contrib/easy_visitor_stats/issues.
