About this project

Beutl is a cross-platform video editing and compositing application built with the latest .NET, running on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It provides keyframe-based animation for creating fades, slides, and other motion effects, along with a broad set of built-in effects such as color filters, blurs, shadows, LUTs, outlines, inner shadows, and long shadows. The software supports an extension system where users can create a Beutl account to acquire or publish extensions that add effects, objects, codecs, and UI components. A notable feature is integrated version control: projects can be tracked with Git, restored to earlier versions, branched experimentally, and backed up to remote repositories from within the application. The project is licensed under the MIT License, while the separate Beutl.FFmpegWorker executable, which links with GPL-licensed FFmpeg, is distributed under GPLv3 and communicates with the main application via IPC. Development requires initializing Git submodules and can be started using the provided build scripts.
