About this project

This repository is a curated directory of free applications for desktop and mobile platforms. The README is a long, categorized list rather than a code project: each entry gives an app name, a link, a short description, and platform markers for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Open-source entries link to their repositories, and selected apps are marked as recommended. The list is split into a desktop version and a separate mobile version, with filter pages for Windows-only, macOS-only, Linux-only, open-source-only, recommended-only, Android-only, and iOS-only views. A table of contents covers the main sections. Desktop categories include Audio (players, recording, DJ software, music notation, music production), Browsers, Communication (messaging and email clients), Compression and Archiving, Customize (system customization and wallpaper tools), Data Management (copy/move and sync/clone), Developer Tools (API development, database, network analysis, game engines, virtualization), Documents (office suites, e-book, PDF tools), Finance, Note Taking, Text Editors, Download Managers, Games and cloud gaming, mobile and other emulators, Graphics Tools, 3D Modeling and Animation, Security (antivirus, password managers, ad and tracker blocking), Image Viewers, Remote Access, Video (editors, players, streaming/recording, converters/compressors), VPN and proxy tools, and Utility (clipboard, metadata, window management, file management, application management, screenshot, space visualizer, trackpad). Examples span well-known free tools such as Audacity, LMMS, Firefox, Thunderbird, 7-Zip, Syncthing, Insomnia, Postman, and many others, alongside smaller open-source utilities. The project accepts contributions through a contributing guide and offers a maintainer path. It is a reference resource for people looking for free software alternatives across operating systems.
