About this project
AlDente is a macOS menu‑bar application that lets users set a maximum charge limit between 20% and 100% to reduce battery wear. Lithium‑ion batteries last longest when kept between 20% and 80%; keeping a MacBook at 100% continuously shortens its lifespan. The free version provides a Charge Limiter (slider or manual entry) and a Discharge feature that runs the Mac on battery power even while plugged in, allowing the battery to drain to a healthier level. Discharge mode disables clamshell operation due to technical limits. AlDente requires macOS 11 Big Sur or later and supports a range of MacBook models (see the project FAQ). A paid Pro version adds Heat Protection, Sailing Mode, Top Up, Calibration Mode, live status icons, and a refined UI. The project is no longer open source; the GitHub repository holds legacy code and archived releases only. Installation is via GitHub releases or Setapp. The tool uses low‑level SMC access (via SMCKit) and includes a disclaimer that users assume all risk.
