About this project

BeatCrate is a personal macOS application designed for music producers to organize and manage their beat libraries. It replaces traditional folder-based browsing with a "crate" system, allowing users to catalogue tracks with covers and identities. Key capabilities include: - Local-first Management: Runs entirely on-device using a local SQLite database with no cloud accounts or telemetry. - Audio Previewing: Features buffer-cached playback with integrated-loudness (LUFS) measurement to ensure consistent volume levels across different tracks. It integrates with macOS media keys and the Now Playing widget. - DAW Integration: Includes a companion VST3 and AU plugin (built with JUCE) that allows users to access and edit track notes directly within a Digital Audio Workstation (e.g., Ableton, Logic, Reaper) by reading the same local database. - Ableton Project Analysis: Specifically parses Ableton .als projects to visualize creative output and productivity trends over time via a "Career arc" view. - Live Folder Watching: Automatically reconciles changes to the music folder, such as new additions or renamed folders, without losing associated notes or tags.
