About this project

Tamari is a fully-featured recipe manager web application built with Python and Flask. It provides user accounts with optional email password reset, recipe storage with titles, categories, descriptions, time estimates, servings, URLs, nutrition info, ingredients, instructions, and photos. Recipes can be marked as favorites, categorized, searched in real time, and optionally made public for sharing. The app includes a collection of over 400,000 recipes from 300 recipe sharing websites that can be imported into a personal collection with one click. Beyond recipe management, Tamari offers shopping list organization per store, one-click addition of recipe ingredients to lists, barcode scanning for list items, and a meal planner for scheduling recipes up to 30 days in advance. Users can customize photo display size, sorting, light/dark themes, profile pictures, and accent colors. Instance-wide settings such as recipes per page and dynamic image loading are also available. A comprehensive REST API allows programmatic management of recipes, shopping lists, and meal plans. The application is responsive across desktops, tablets, and smartphones. Deployment is supported through Docker with persistent storage, and manual installation instructions are provided for Debian 12 and Ubuntu 24.10 using a Python virtual environment and Gunicorn. Documentation covers usage, installation, upgrading, and backups.
