SponsorBlock is an open-source, crowdsourced browser extension that skips sponsor segments in YouTube videos. Users submit timestamps when sponsor content occurs, and the extension automatically skips known sponsor segments during playback. Beyond sponsor segments, it supports skipping other categories such as intros, outros, and subscribe reminders. The extension is available for Chrome/Chromium, Firefox, Edge, and Safari (macOS and iOS), with third-party ports for MPV, Kodi, Chromecast, and iOS. It also supports Invidious, a privacy-focused YouTube frontend. The backend server code is maintained separately in the SponsorBlockServer repository. The database is publicly downloadable, and the API is documented for use in other projects. The dataset and API have been adopted by third-party ports and a neural network project called NeuralBlock. The project is licensed under GNU GPL v3 or later. The server uses NewLeaf to retrieve video information from YouTube. The extension was originally forked from YTSponsorSkip, though little original code remains. Community translations are managed through Crowdin.
