clypra

Clypra is an MIT-licensed desktop and mobile video editor that combines a Rust/Tauri v2 backend with a React 19 frontend. It targets macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, with pre-built binaries available through GitHub Releases, Homebrew, MSI, and AppImage. Key capabilities include a multi-track timeline with frame-accurate trimming and undo/redo, hardware-accelerated decoding through VideoToolbox, D3D11VA, and VAAPI, real-time audio waveform rendering with peak and RMS display, text and visual compositing with animated overlays and filters, and import/export support for MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, MP3, WAV, PNG, ProRes, and H.264. The architecture separates a React/TypeScript frontend (timeline UI, preview canvas, filmstrip cache) from a Rust backend (FFmpeg decoder pool, hardware acceleration, export pipeline) connected through Tauri IPC. The project also includes production-only performance telemetry that collects numerical timing metrics and GPU/OS information without personal data, media content, or file paths. Development requires Node.js 18+, Rust 1.70+, and FFmpeg 6.0+. The repository includes frontend and backend tests, TypeScript checking, and formatting scripts. Contributions are welcomed under the MIT license, with FFmpeg dependencies under LGPL v2.1+.
