About this project
Sioyek is a specialized PDF viewer designed to enhance reading and navigation of textbooks and research papers. It stands out with features tailored for academic use, such as Smart Jump, which allows jumping to referenced figures or bibliography items even without embedded links, and an Overview mode for quick access to figures, references, and tables. The Portal feature links text locations to figures, displaying the nearest portal destination in a separate window, ideal for multi-monitor setups. Users can set named marks (local and global) and bookmarks for quick navigation, and highlight text with various styles, with searchable highlights. Configuration is highly customizable via `keys_user.config` and `prefs_user.config`, allowing users to remap all keybindings and adjust UI elements. The project provides official installers for Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus third-party packages for various distributions (e.g., Flathub, AUR, Debian, NixOS). Build instructions are available for Linux, Windows, and macOS, requiring Qt and libharfbuzz. The development branch uses Qt 6.7 or 6.8, with a note about macOS quarantine issues. Sioyek is open-source and supports donations via Buy Me a Coffee.
