About this project
Agent! is a Swift/SwiftUI Mac app requiring macOS 14.6 or later and supporting Apple Silicon and Intel. It is distributed through signed, notarized DMG/ZIP releases or Homebrew, and can also be built from Xcode or build.sh; ad-hoc source builds cannot register the Launch Agent and Launch Daemon helpers.
The app provides an autonomous task loop that reasons, calls tools, observes results, self-corrects, and requires goal_state evidence before completion, with an optional diff critic. It supports 23 LLM providers, including OpenAI, Claude, Codex, Gemini, Grok, Mistral, DeepSeek, Qwen, Ollama, vLLM, LM Studio, OpenRouter and others, plus on-device Apple Intelligence. Users bring their own API keys, can run local models, and the README states that the app has no subscription, Electron, NPM dependency, or telemetry. A fallback chain can switch providers on rate limits, timeouts, or network failures.
For development work, Agent! reads and searches codebases, edits files with string-replace diffs, manages git, builds and analyzes Xcode projects, indexes repositories into portable JSONL repo maps, and snapshots edits for rollback or whole-task rewind. Shell commands can run in process, as the user through a Launch Agent, or as root through an approved Launch Daemon.
Desktop automation includes Accessibility-based element actions, AppleScript, JavaScript for Automation, ScriptingBridge app bridges, and AgentScript, which compiles Swift files to dylibs and runs them with the app's TCC permissions. Additional features cover Safari automation, optional Selenium or Playwright MCP browser control, on-device voice activation, iMessage remote commands from approved senders, concurrent sub-agents with mailboxes, persistent memory, plans, skills, tab-scoped project folders and history, and configurable MCP servers.
Jev is an optional safety layer that reviews shell commands after built-in checks and blocks commands above a configurable destructive-probability threshold. The default threshold is 70 percent; missing Jev access or an outage fails open and logs the issue.
