About this project
goose is a general-purpose AI agent that runs locally on your machine. It is designed not only for coding but also for research, writing, automation, data analysis, and similar tasks.
The project ships as three surfaces:
- A native desktop app for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
- A full CLI for terminal workflows, installable via a one-line script.
- An API to embed the agent into other applications.
Built in Rust for performance and portability, goose works with 15+ model providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Ollama, OpenRouter, Azure, and AWS Bedrock. It also supports using existing Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini subscriptions through ACP, and connects to 70+ extensions via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) open standard.
goose is part of the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) at the Linux Foundation and is licensed under Apache 2.0. Documentation, installation guides, tutorials, and troubleshooting resources are available through the official docs, while community support is on Discord along with YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X channels. Users can also build custom distributions with preconfigured providers, extensions, and branding.
